Em, the queen of colourful, vintage boho style

Em, aka @tallulahcottage,  is definitely the queen of colourful, vintage, floral boho style. She is a nearly 50-year-old single mama to 2 beautiful children. She works in special needs education and has always had a passion for art, fashion and interiors.

Em has travelled the world and seen some beautiful places as she once worked for British Airways as cabin crew! (sounds exciting – Noemi 🥰). She’s spent some years living in Brighton/London before having her children and has now settled in Shropshire surrounded by fields🥰.

She is naturally drawn to the ocean and find the sea very therapeutic and peaceful. Once her children have left home, she’d like to settle by the sea.

Can you remember your first design project in your home?

Em: My 1st project in my home were the 2 circles on the kitchen wall and my hand-painted mural in the kitchen

Em: I get my design inspiration from other influencers and their homes on Instagram, but I enjoy Bohemiandecor for worldwide inspiration and shares. 🥰

Em: My inspirations come from my passion for my home and the enjoyment I get making it look unique with its own style and twist. Like I said before, I have many accounts I have huge admiration for and have often used style designs from other accounts for my own home.

What’s the favourite part of your home?

Em: My favourite part of my home would probably be my bedroom as I adore the Miami mint colour I have on my wall. It gives me a holiday vibe. I also love the view I have out of my bedroom window, and as I don’t have curtains at my window, I can literally watch the stars as I go to sleep 🥰.

Em: I find it really hard to describe my style as I think it’s a mixture of boho/plants/clash of colour and textures. I love to mix up bits of furniture from different eras,/nearly everything in my home is second hand/vintage. I love bright colours, and I tend to always have coral/turquoise somewhere in my home.

How does your family relate to your passion for design? Do they support it?

Em: I live with my 18-year-old daughter and my 8-year-old son, who has both got very used to find me with a paintbrush in my hand 🤣. My family are very proud of my achievements with my home as I lost my dad very suddenly last year and was very poorly with Covid. Tallulah has really helped me through a terribly hard time.

Em: My favourite colours are definitely turquoise and coral.

What was your design faux pas you did? 

Em: A huge design mistake I made was at Christmas time when I created a beautiful design of baubles and placed them on the top of my log burner whilst it was on!! As you can imagine, the creation melted all over the burner, and it took me over a week to remove the melted mess🤣🤣.

Do you have a favourite designer (or more)? 

Em: If I’m totally honest with you, I don’t have a favourite designer as such, as I find so many influencers on Instagram stand right out for me.

Is there any design style you don’t like and why?

Em: I’ve never been a fan of dark mahogany furniture!! And although dark interiors are very much the new look, it’s not a look I’m drawn to.
