Let me introduce to you Agi – aka @agi_at_59 – who lives with her husband and two young children in a small Victorian terraced house in the centre of Portsmouth, in the UK. She is a massive tea drinker, and she can’t live without chocolate.
She loves interiors and anything interiors related. Since she can remember she was rearranging furniture in her room and faffing with the content of my shelves. Interiors have always been her passion.
Can you remember your first design project in your home?
Agi: We bought our house just over 10 years ago, and the first thing we did was tackle our master bedroom that was dark brown. Apart from repainting the walls which felt like an endless task we’ve got rid of the cheap floor panels and restored the original floorboards and uncovered the original fireplace. It took ages to chisel out the original bricks on the chimney breast, but it was definitely worth it, and I still love it all those years later.
What is your favourite Instagram page on design (or pages if you have more)?
Agi: Instagram is absolutely full of amazing interior inspo! It’s free, and it’s endless! I can easily
spend hours scrolling through the fab interior profiles. I definitely can’t choose just one, but
some of my favourite ones have to be @oneoffto25 @the_idle_hands @suszi_saunders
What inspires you?
Agi: It could be anything. Sometimes I spot a nice shade of colour when out and about, and it
would stay with me, another time I will see an epic room in the movie and would like the vibe
of it. Each project starts with just one small thing that has totally stolen my heart. It could be
a paint colour, nice rug, old cabinet or even something as small as a candle. Then I just build
the scheme around that and voila.
What’s the favourite part of your home?
Agi: I love all the rooms in our house for different reasons, but if I have to choose just one part I will go with the dining/living space. It’s two rooms knocked into one, but we’ve kept the chimney breast in the middle and installed a wood burner. It’s the space where we spend most of our time as a family, and I love the different zones we’ve created in there to serve different purposes.
Can you describe your style?
Agi: I would say eclectic, colourful and fun. I love cherry-picking from different styles and
aesthetics. I think life is too short to stick to just one style 😉
What is your favourite colour?
Agi: I love all the colours really. I also adore the contrast between the colours in the interiors! You can create totally different vibes by just changing the shades of the colours used in the room and it’s pretty amazing.
What was your design faux pas you did?
Agi: I absolutely hate our corner bath in the bathroom, and unfortunately, I have no one to blame for it as it was my idea. One of my biggest regrets is not installing a free-standing roll-top bath when we’ve done our bathroom.
Do you have a favourite designer (or more)?
Agi: Not really. As I said earlier, I love to mix stuff together and try not to get fixated on trends and designers.
Is there any design style you don’t like and why?
Agi: I find the interiors filled with all the shiny mirrored furniture a bit too much but having said that each to their own and if someone feels happy in the style like this then why not.
What work do you most enjoying doing?
Agi: I love the styling side of things. I could faff for hours with cushions, blankets, etc. It’s definitely my favourite part.
What do you like about your work?
Agi: Being my own boss. Although that can backfire a bit as I sometimes leave things till the last minute. I also really like the moment when the projects come to life after all the planning and decorating is done.
What do you dislike about your work?
Agi: Some of the admin side of things, accounting etc.
What is your dream design project?
Agi: I love challenges, so I often enjoy the projects that are totally not me. I had a client recently who’s brief was completely against what I would usually go for so I was a little nervous at the beginning but absolutely enjoyed the process and the final result.
Thank you for the amazing photos, Agi. 🥰
A huge thank you for Agi for this interview. I’m so happy that I met so many talented, strong, gorgeous women during my Instagram journey. It’s not only about followers, numbers but the people who we meet and like. We may live a thousand miles away from each other, on the other side of the planet, but we are friends who support each other. 💖
