Colourful, feminine home by Mindy

Let me introduce you to Mindy, aka @mindy_schroor from the Netherlands. She is an amazing designer and whom I follow on Instagram for some time now. She is married to Theo and the mother of Nayla (13) and Ravi (6). They bought their home almost 7 years ago from their parents-in-law. So it’s the family home of Theo.

Mindy stopped working 3 years ago to take care of Ravi, who couldn’t go to day-care anymore because he’s a special needs child. Before, she always worked in the fashion industry, where it’s a lot of styling. Mindy really missed being creative, and so she’s started decorating their home. In April 2018, she became active on Instagram, and now Instagram and her blog is her work.

Can you remember your first design project in your home?

Mindy: When we moved here, we painted almost everything white. I know, can you imagine? Haha. When I felt like we needed a change, I painted the wall ocher and one colour block in the same colour. I got the taste of it, and our home has seen lots of colours since then.

What is your favourite Instagram page on design?

Mindy: The pages that inspired me the most when I started Instagram were @_finntage and @layeredhome. Now, I have lots of Instagram accounts that inspire me.

What inspires you?

Mindy: I get inspiration from everything, I think. Nature, shopping, books, movies, buildings. Colour combinations and patterns inspire me the most to take into a design for our home.

What’s the favourite part of your home?

Mindy: The living area. There are lots to see, and I love that.

Can you describe your style?

Mindy: I think my style is colourful and feminine. Maybe a little bit romantic with a crazy twist here and there. I really love art deco and regency style and mix it with all the things I love.

How does your family relate to your passion for design? Do they support it?

Mindy: Well, my daughter isn’t a big fan of all the colour, she prefers white. But she also says that we got a cosy home, so I think that’s a big compliment from a 13-year-old. My husband likes almost everything I do. Although he did mention, it’s starting to get very pink in our house, hahaha.

I know you are a colour lover, but what’s your favourite?

Mindy: I’m a big fan of autumn colours, warm red and yellow. But my favourite colour must be pink!

What was your design faux pas you did?

Mindy: When I painted the large wall in our living room light pink and yellow. An diagnal colourblock.. I really didn’t like that; it even made me cry, haha.

Do you have a favourite designer (or more)?

Mindy: I don’t think I have one favourite. It’s like clothing brands; I’m not stuck with particular brands; I look at everything individually.

Is there any design style you don’t like and why?

Mindy: White and modern won’t fit us. Still doesn’t mean I can’t like a white and contemporary design. I follow multiple accounts with that kind of design and always get inspired by it.
