You know that feeling when you get when September arrives, and you are in fall/autumn mode even though it is almost 40 degrees (104°F for my American readers)? The angel on one shoulder says that just enjoy the fall vibes who cares how hot is outside. The devil, on the other, says you are joking, forget autumn and get into the pool right now.
That’s how I feel at the moment. The aircon and the ceiling fans are on, and it’s still hot, but nobody can take away my fall love, no way. I’m all in.
The good thing about Cyprus – where I live is – that although our autumn arrives quite late, usually at the end of November but we can still have sunny and warm days at the beginning of December. We have a long, sometimes rainy but not too cold autumn/fall. It’s basically our winter, but we never have snow only in the mountains because we live in the Mediterranean.
According to Wikipedia “hygge” is a Danish and Norwegian word for a mood of coziness and comfortable conviviality with feelings of wellness and contentment. As a cultural category with its sets of associated practices hygge has more or less the same meanings in Danish and Norwegian, but the notion is more central in Denmark than in Norway.[The emphasis on hygge as a core part of Danish culture is a recent phenomenon, dating to the late 20th century.
It doesn’t matter how the sun shines, and the UV index is high outside, I’m sitting in my office and writing about my favourite season of all time.
Vintage cottage
Margy’s hygge vintage cottage in Salt Lake City, Utah, is the perfect example of cosy hygge decor. I’ve just come across her beautiful feed – @theoldhouseonmain, but I’m already in love with it. It’s amazing with capital A. Her gorgeous home built in 1890, and it oozes the hygge vibes.

Fall kitchen
You can decorate your whole house in fall style, your kitchen too. We, mums, spend a lot of time in the kitchen, it’s our sanctuary 😀 (no it’s not, just kidding) so it’s nice to have a bit of fall-inspired decoration there as well.
This gorgeous French farmhouse style kitchen – @frenchflairfarmhouse – in Florida is an excellent example of autumn decor. You don’t need much to make a place beautiful.

Creating a beautiful boho home isn’t about luck any more than getting rich is about stumbling across a leprechaun in a forest with a pot of gold. Homemakers, designers who survive just keep going.
Sometimes you like your decoration, sometimes you don’t, but each and every case, you learn something about how to be a better homemaker/designer. Even if you screw up, your design reflects your personality.
And if you think about it, that’s good news.
It means it’s okay if you are not a perfect designer. It means you can make mistakes. It means your confusion is perfectly normal, and you’ll get through it. You’ll create something better and more beautiful next time.
So keep your chin up, make some thinking, love what you create, and most of all, believe in yourself. If you determined, and you persevere, your home decor will turn out just fine.
And when it does, it all be worth it.
Thank you for the fantastic pictures to these amazing designers and homemakers from around the world ❤️
